It has been a full week at Maplehurst with the Huskies working to meet our expectations in all areas.

It has been a week without interruption in our schedule and that has helped to reinforce our expectations of excellence.

Here are a few updates for the Huskies:

  • Our after-school detention room is now open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and may be used for the following situations:
    • Late for school, late for class, inattentive, refusal to complete work, incomplete work
    • interruptions to the positive learning environment
    • inappropriate behaviour on the playground

Teachers will communicate with home as pick up is required at 3:15 and 24 hours’ notice will always be given.

  • Save the Date!
    • Our Husky Homecoming will take place on October 13th from 4:30 – 7:30
    • A separate message with more details will follow and school clothing will be on sale at the event
    •
  • October 14th is the day Lifetouch will be coming back to finish those classes and people who did not get their pictures taken on Picture Day.
    • This is not picture retake day. It is just those who did not get theirs taken on the first day.
    •
  • Beginning on October 11th and continuing to the next four weeks, every Grade 6 Husky will be taking part in a daily 30 minute What I Need (WIN) session designed to deepen their learning and expand their skills.  Each Husky will receive a notice on Tuesday to bring home, indicating their WIN session teacher, as well as their learning focus. Be on the lookout for the slip on Tuesday as it needs to be signed and returned to the WIN session teacher.
  • The last day for our Book Fair will be next Tuesday
  • We have had several supply teachers in the school this week and we appreciate the cooperation of the Huskies in treating these guest teachers with respect.
  • The engagement in speaking French in several classes is on the rise.  The expectation for Immersion students to be conversing in French whenever possible has been made clear.  A grade 8 French Language Arts teacher has observed that the level of French in his classes is already at a higher level than this time last year. The grade 7 Wellness team had a weeklong theme of Travaille.  Les élèves travaillent dur pour améliorer leur santé physique et mentale.

Have a wonderful long Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends.

Merci et passez une belle longue fin de semaine.
